The Peak District in all it’s glory!

I was in the Rutland Arms in Bakewell last night (which by the way is dog friendly!) and I was chatting to a businessman from Essex. He asked me, what had made me want to live in the Peak District!?  Well, I was a bit surprised at first, because I thought it was a bit of an obvious answer. I paused and explained to him, that whilst he thought he was a million miles from anywhere, and a bit isolated, perhaps there isn’t a Mcdonalds within 20 miles – maybe that is the beauty of the place. We live in a wonderful part of the world, and yes, we don’t have all the facilities of the big towns and cities, but what we do have is peace and tranquility and beauty, surrounding us all the time. We can shop in the cities if we want, and maybe we need to plan ahead a little, but there is always online shopping for those who simply don’t want to venture into the smoke.

Take a look at this video and you can see for yourself why you should “get here”

Hell on 4 Paws

Just been reading a great book by Gwen Bailey about how she adapted to living with Chesil, a delinquent dog that she "inherited" when she began a long lasting relationship with Chesil's owner.  The story unfolds of how she helped this difficult dog and stopped it from rolling in unspeakable messes and weeing on the floors of her house!  It gives useful training tips throughout the story, and explains from an animal behavouralist point of view, how a dog's mind works……

This would make a great stocking filler for dog lovers.

Taking a Virtual Dog for a walk!

I'm getting really excited about the Pedigree Adoption Drive campaign – which starts next Monday.  I am taking part this year, and will be putting a Virtual Kennel on my website so that people will be able to take Ripley, our Virtual dog for  a walk. If they complete the walk, Pedigree will donate £1 to their Adoption Campaign.  This will mean that more rescue centres will be able to improve their facilities this helping more dogs get rehome.

Ripley laying down fed upWe need to put a stop to the 20 dogs a day that are being put down. What a terrible waste of an animals life.

If you would like to help, put a note in your diary to check our website and together we can save some more dogs lives.

Over 7500 UK dogs put down each year…..how can you help?

I was very pleased to be asked this year, if I would help support the Pedigree Adoption Drive 2011.

PAD_flat_logo_yellow

Did you know that last year over 120,000 dogs were abandoned in the UK – shocking isn't it….  Perhaps what's even more disturbing is the fact that 7,571 dogs had to be put down  – that's over 20 a day……

The Pedigree adoption drive was launched in 2008, since then, it had raised over £1 million pounds for rescue centres up and down the country, who work tirelessly to find new and loving homes for abandoned dogs.

Last year alone £1/4 Million pounds was given out in grants to help refurbish dilapidated kennels and provide desperately needed veterinary facilities.

So how can you help?

This year, the campaign is all about saving abandoned dogs from their last walk – the walk that sadly ends in a vet's room where they are put down.

For one week only (17th – 21st October 2011) dog lovers everywhere are being called upon to take part in the world's first "virtual dog walk around the web."  You will be able to take Ripley for a walk.

Ripley cute Our virtual dog will walk across beaches, forests and parks. These will be real websites of places where a dog would love to go on a walk.

With each walk, users can interact and play with Ripley and every completed walk will unlock a £1 donation from Pedigree until the £100,000 target is reached.

On the 17th October 2011, our website will be updated with a "Virtual Kennel" and you will be able to take Ripley out for a virtual walk, as many times as you like for the rest of the week!

Please help save some of these dogs from their last walk…….

Sunshine all week!!!

Just had a beautiful walk in Monyash today. The sun was shining, and the birds were singing! I’m planning on making the most of the lovely weather this week. The MET office is predicting sunshine all week! Happy Days…. Tilly me and my shadow

The temperature is going to be upwards of 23 degrees from Wednesday – so the short sleeved t shirts and dare I say it – shorts(?) will be coming back out of the wardrobe!

I’m now busy planning walks and taking photographs for the forthcoming Doggie Guides. Got to make the most of the weather while it lasts.

If you fancy a visit to the Peak District with your dog, I suggest getting up here this week – it could be snowing soon! (You think I’m joking?)

Monyash Meander

Mum’s just taken me on a great walk around Monyash. There was lots of rabbit smells around and I was running around like an overzealous hoover. We saw a few Duke of Edinburgh students about, with big ruck sacks on their backs. What’s that all about?

Water at Old Smithy Tea Rooms All this walking is thirsty work, so it’s a good job that the Old Smithy Tearooms had some water outside for thirsty dogs.

I think she fancied a Latte, but we didn’t go in cos I know she wanted to get some work done this morning. Pity, cos I like having a snooze on the floor, while she has a hot drink. Maybe next time……..

Tilly’s Tales: All Clear from the V.E.T!

Yaaaaaaaay!  Just been to the V.E.T. very excited. Licked the V.E.T all over again!  She checked my poorly leg and gave it a good prod and squeeze – ouch!!  Disgustingly, she even picked the scab off, just to check it wasn't infected underneath (at least that's what she said).

Anyhow, just been given the all clear, no more expensive visits, at least for the time being! Tilly after collar taken off

Sadly, I can't jump in any water just yet, and I love swimming sooooo much. Never mind, I'll just have to be content with racing around the fields, and letting out some of the pent up energy that has been building up whilst I've been on the lead.

Mum's just taken a photo of me, once I had stopped running about – just stopped long enough to peer at the lense. Look no collar…..  I might not look that happy, but I promise you I am – this is just my natural labrador look!!

Stupid Lampshade!

For those of you, who have been following my antics over the last couple of days, you will realise that I have had a poorly paw. Well actually it was the inside of my back leg, my mum thought it was my paw, as I was hobbling around to get a bit of sympathy….

Anyhow, during a bit of rough and tumble with the "little person" of the family, she spotted some gunk in my wound.  Off I was rushed to the V.E.T.

After a great deal of licking and jumping around in excitement (me, not the V.E.T.) I was presented with some rather attractive headgear! Obviously, I tried to get it off, with a great deal of pawing, but it was not budging.Tilly and her lampshade
Mum has made a lot of fuss of me, and given me lots of hugs and cuddles, but the stupid thing still hasn't come off.  How I'm going to sleep in this thing is beyond me, but if I can't sleep, then nobody else is going to either. I'm going to make sure I bang into every object around the house, during the wee small hours, so that everyone knows how I feel.

Yours in misery……Tilly xxx

Got a sore paw!

I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself today. Which stupid two legged person invented barbed wire?

How was I to know there was some nasty sharp metal lurking around when I was sniffing rabbits….

Mum tried to chase me round the kitchen with some nasty salt water, once she realised that I had actually hurt myself and wasn't doing my "dying swan" act, as she calls it.  She said that I should be on the stage with the looks that I give her sometimes….

Anyhow, mum and I are just putting together our newsletter for this month. We are a bit behind, something called "school holidays" seems to have caused a few problems this week. Mum says we'll get back to normal next week (whatever normal is?) As long as I get my walks, some grub and a bit of love, that all I care about. For now, I'm going back to licking my poorly paw and feeling sorry for myself – it might get me a bit more gravy in my dinner tonight…….
